Historian, novelist, and masterful teacher Richard Marius struggled with religious belief throughout his life. His very devout mother taught him to memorize the Bible from a very early age and influenced him to make a commitment to enter the ministry when he was a senior in high school. However, during his first year at the University of Tennessee, his faith was shaken by a reading assignment in freshman English-an essay in which the author argues that the universe is purposeless and meaningless. After receiving a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, Marius attended graduate school at Yale University to study Renaissance and Reformation history, receiving a PhD in history with adissertation on Sir Thomas More. During his years as a student, he occasionally held the position of supply pastor, but, after graduation from Yale, he decided to enter the academic world as a history professor. And he continued to preach when the opportunity arose. Wrestling with God is a collection of twenty-three sermons or meditations, delivered in a variety of settings, and spanning Richard Marius's adult life from the late 1950s until a few months before his death. Many of them were delivered at Morning Prayers, a daily service in the Appleton Chapel of the Memorial Church at Harvard University. In these selections, he explores the questions of faith and doubt, belief and unbelief, good and evil. His explications are informed by an eclectic knowledge of the Bible, art and architecture, music, literature, history, philosophy and theology, politics and current events, travel, and languages. A skeptical humanist, Marius nevertheless was infused with his own kind of religious feeling, and his struggle to find meaning and purpose in his life will resonate with all readers who struggle with the ultimate questions of existence.

Throughout history, Christians have found the summary of their faith in the three ancient creeds. The God We Proclaim explores that faith as it is found in the shortest of them: the Apostles' Creed. The contributors are among Britain's foremost Christian communicators and teachers. Written with an infectious enthusiasm for theology, The God We Proclaim is ideal for anyone seeking to understand the Christian faith, either individually, or in a church or student study group. It is based on a set of sermons delivered in the chapel of Jesus College, Cambridge, which surveyed the foundations of Christianity. Dorothy L. Sayers (1893-1957) wrote in her essay ""The Dogma is the Drama"" that people assume that if churches are empty it is because preachers ""insist too much upon doctrine,"" or ""dull dogma"" as they disapprovingly call it. Sayers knew that the opposite is true. ""It is the neglect of dogma that makes for dullness. The Christian faith is the most exciting drama that ever staggered the imagination of man--and the dogma is the drama."" ""Clear-eyed, creative, and stunningly insightful, these sermons on the creed will draw readers to a deeper and finer understanding, certainly, but for some there will also be the luminous discovery that the creed itself becomes a mysterious doorway into prayer, into an encounter with the mystery to which the words bear witness."" --Mark McIntosh, Professor, Loyola University Chicago ""As Dean of Jesus College, John Hughes proved to be someone whom many wanted to befriend recognizing the faith on which his life was built. Focusing on the Creed, this sermon series gives an inspiring insight into that faith, being broad enough to encompass the main tenets of belief but with gem after gem of deep insight. The book is a source of great joy and fulfillment."" --Ian White, Master, Jesus College, Cambridge John Hughes was a fellow of Jesus College, Cambridge, and the dean of the college chapel until his death in 2014 at the age of thirty-five. Widely regarded as one of the principal theological minds of his generation, he was the author of The End of Work (2007). His collected essays have been published as Graced Life: The Writings of John Hughes, edited by Matthew Bullimore (2016). Andrew Davison is the Starbridge Lecturer in Theology and Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, a fellow of Corpus Christi College, and the Canon Philosopher of St. Albans Cathedral. He is the author of several books, including Why Sacraments? (2013), The Love of Wisdom: An Introduction to Philosophy for Theologians (2013), and Blessing (2014), and the editor of Imaginative Apologetics (2011).

Citizen's Basic Income - often called `Universal Basic Income' or simply `Basic Income' - is an act of grace. It is an unconditional income paid automatically to every individual as a right of citizenship and operates on a similar principle to the National Health Service - free at point of use for every legal resident.
As a national social policy, reforming the UK's benefits system, Citizen's Basic Income would recognise God's equal treatment of every person while recognising individuality and celebrating God-given abundance. It would provide for the poor, be non-judgemental and recognise our mutual dependency. It would facilitate liberty, the duty to serve and a more just society, while both relativising and enhancing the family and inspiring us all to be co-creators.
The idea of an unconditional payment for every citizen has been around at least since the eighteenth century. In the modern day Malcolm Torry and the Citizen's Income Trust have promoted debate and understanding of its feasibility. In this book Torry explains the models by which Citizen's Basic Income could work, and demonstrates the association between Citizen's Basic Income and Christianity. He calls for greater Church involvement in a wide-ranging debate on the subject.
Henry and his 180-pound dog Mudge are best friends forever. And in this eighth book of their adventures, they make friends with a scruffy but lovable cat.
When it comes to new babies, friends, or other loved ones, we should remind them of just how darling they are. But are they cuter than a piglet in a sweater? A basket of baby chicks? An elephant calf taking a bath? Of course! Sweet, funny, irreverent, but above all, cute, this keepsake-size book is perfect for both gift-giving and cuddly story times.
Religious and faith-based organisations constitute a large and important group of organisations. This is the first book to study systematically their characteristics and the distinctive challenges they pose to the people managing them. Malcolm Torry discusses how to define religious and faith-based organisations, how to study them, and the secular context in which they operate in Western Europe and the USA. There are chapters on congregations, denominations, governance, membership, the clergy, leadership, and religious and faith-based organisations' relationship to civil society. The book relies on research-based literature and case studies and contains full bibliographies, making it an essential tool for anyone studying this important new field.
Appreciative Inquiry----a book in The Practicing Organization Development Series----is for leaders and organizational consultants who are ready to abandon the familiar tyranny of complex change programs. Recognizing that human systems are constructions of the human imagination and therefore capable of change at the speed of imagination, the Appreciative Inquiry (AI) process frees organizations from the restrictive orthodoxy of "deficit based change" and allows them the freedom to mobilize strategic change and focus on the visible and tacit strengths of an organization. AI is capable of engaging whole systems at amazing scales----easily engaging hundreds or sometimes thousands of people, often in a matter of weeks or days, to leverage the positive core of the organization. Tap into the rich and inspiring "high point" accounts of personal or collective capacity and link this "positive core" to any change agenda. Once you have have determined what is really working, transformations never thought possible are rapidly and democratically mobilized. "This is a book about the future of organization development. It is a practical guide to appreciative inquiry for organization leaders and organization development professionals and it is a comprehensive explanation at the speed of imagination." ----Peter Sorensen, professor and director of the Ph.D. program in organization development and master of science program in management and organization behavior, Benedictine University

Note from the publisher: America has the bizarre idea that a "picture book" must consist of exactly 32 pages, with large type and an appropriately simple story line. This book is 128 pages, has a glossary of terms, and presents a richly developed and historically accurate panorama. So it doesn't fit the pattern. Neither did Hokusai!
